Fender Bassman 100T Chapter 3

Quick question, I was just playing my amp for several hours, fine no problems but when I reached around back to turn off the switch it was so hot it burned my fingers. I looked on the fan was not on. Is there a way to check to see if this time works? Should it always be running?
That's one thing I never understood about the design of the 100T. According to Fender the fan will only come on if the amp has reached critical mass, which to my way of thinking is too late. My 100T (5 years old this past April) obviously has a faulty sensor and its fan comes on after the amp gets just a little warm, which I like, and seems the way it should be.

Okay ladies and gents, I need some advice. I am about to upgrade my amp. I've listened to both the Fender Bassman 100T and the Super Bassman (and many others, these fit my style and tone best). I'm going to get a 4x10 cab for now, but who knows down the road. I like the silent mode on the 100T for not needing a cab at church, but am concerned about volume level at gigs. I currently play through a 500w rumble 2x10 (so 350w actual) and am definitely struggling with volume when I don't have FOH support. I did not get to hear the amps through the cab I'm buying because no one has one in stock so I couldn't judge true volume. So I need some advice for which to get. Most gigs range from small bar to 2000 SQ foot outdoors against 2 guitarist and 1 powerful drummer.

Well, out of 9 responses, 4 suggested I get the 2x10 ext cab for my rumble, which I stated, I've already decided on the amps amp and am just looking for help deciding which one. 1 suggested a 4x10 for my rumble, but he didn't know I had a combo at the time. 1 response was suggesting that my target volume wasn't the right mentality, which is great, but doesn't help me decide. 1 response was to the previous one one from someone who understands my need, but still no suggestions or help. 1 was a funny remark to the previous. And 1 was rodl2005 which was great and helpful, but since the others kept trying to sell me on the Rumble I already own, but want to move away from, I thought I'd come here to hear from some guys with 1 of the exact amps I'm deciding between to see if I could find any clarity on why they picked over the other.
See my answer on yr other thread for same question.
100T won't get you more volume than yr 500C. .unless you use an 810 or 2x15s etc. .
More speakers gets you volume.
But. ...Super Bassman ftw!!!!! Lotsa volume and unparalleled OOOMPH!!!
You sir are awesome, and I appreciated your help on the other thread as well. I did read it and thought it was great, just thought I would extend my question to these fellas directly. My thought process would be to get a 100T with a 4x10 for normal gigs with the option to buy a 2nd 4x10 down the road. If I got it over the Super Bassman, which is undecided. I didn't mean to discount what your respone, I only meant to get more opinions than just the 1 useful response on my thread.

^This.
More speakers move more air.
Awesome that you back up his assessment. I totally agree and appreciate this concept since my old 150w 1x15 combo, seemed like it could almost reach the same volume as the Rumble 500c (no extension) that replaced it when it bit the dust. That's why I hoped a 4x10 might be enough, but since a 4x10 is usually equated to a 1x15 in volume, I guess I should have expected as much. I guess I just really want the 100T to be enough with a 4x10 that the tone plus the all tubes will give a better perceived volume for the rare occasion it is an issue and maybe a 100T through 2 4x10s down the road will be a nice boon. Based off my time with the 2 (Super vs 100T), it was close enough, that I really want the 100T with it's silent mode, but this is slowly turning into a side career and I've only just recently made enough to substantiate the purchase of 1 amp and 1 cab. Right now, I can't afford to buy the wrong amp. I haven't had a chance to play them through the actual 4x10 neo cab, only a rumble 2x10 extension cab, where the 100T does seem to almost have a louder (at least perceived) push compared to the Rumble 500c which might be all the help I need once I get the 4x10.

Im no expert on these amps but have you thought of pairing the 100T with the Fender 610 ?

That is part of a long term goal, but since no shops near me carry any of the pro gear, I have to buy before I try. I hate the idea of lugging a 6x10 everywhere all the time if not needed. My hope was to get a 4x10 now and a 2nd 4x10 as soon as I could down the road and maybe a 6x10 to fill the gap even farther down the road.

I suggest thinking more about adding the 2x10 extension to the 500 combo for a 4x10 vertical stack(There are your 4 tens) and you'll get 500 watts, better dispersion FOH, improved stage volume, and modularity.

It should be enough for your needs. If not, you can sell the stack to another TBr to help fund your next rig.

Appreciate it, soon you will be more than welcome to buy the Rumble 500c off me as it it is getting replaced no matter what by either the 100T or the SB, because I love the tone too much. I am 0% interested in keeping the Rumble after getting to play on the other 2, and I've earned enough this year on gigging to substantiate buying 2 basses already and now a new rig, so it's not a money issue. It's about the fact I want 25watt/silent mode for some 10% of scenarios, I want 100w for 80% of scenarios and just want to make sure I'm not going to be up a creek on the last 10% of scenarios without the SB.

As I've said, I've not really used the 100T. ..just tried it out a cuppla times. Sounded good. I've got the 100w Ampeg V4B reissue. ..same 4x6L6GC power tubes for 100w. With any loud band. .even using an 810....it's pretty much got into power tube overdrive territory. MAYYYYBE the Fender Pro Neo 410 cabs are more efficient than the 810 Ampeg (they probly are. .. I use 2 Fender Bassman Pro Neo 115 cabs And they get louder than the SVT 810 does. .allowing my V4B to go further b4 getting into Power tube drive areas)
See.... I do use em

And these 115s sound superb! !! If you like a real tubey round sound that's still punchy as hayull... I can't recommend these enough. Then again. .. I do love 15's
I'd still recommend the Super Bassman. If you're ever doing outdoor gigs. ..and you are either loud onstage &/or don't have FOH PA for yr bass, want CLEAN tube tone (or driven tone. ..coz it'll do this with the blendable drive in channel 2) the Super Bassman. .. it's simply the bomb! I rarely use my V4B just coz the Super Bassman is so good. So much oomph from the 6x6550's that I don't hear from the 6L6 loaded 100 watters. I wish I did. ..as the V4B is 20lbs lighter than the Super Bassman (but the Super Bassman is 20lbs lighter than the SVT -so it evens out).
I just noticed in my pic above. ..that I'm just one lead. ..bass guitar to amp. .. I haven't used a pedal since I got this beast! It's got its own pedal for the drive channel. .. and that's all I use. I just let the amp sing! !

I am using a 100T and 610 and it is a match made in heaven. The 610 is not cumbersome at all and easily moved in and out of venues. I though of getting a 410 also but can't justify the cost since it will only save me real estate vertically and the volume and/or 25 watt option can tame the head for smaller venues. Anything smaller than that and it's a combo amp for me.

If your math is right and one tube amp really will do 90% of what you want, that sounds like a no-brainer to me. Just get a Hartke (or other Fender inspired) SS amp as a backup and for that other 10%.

I'm scarred... Been a orchestral/jazz sub/musician for hire for 20 years, never really focused on having a rock band amp for live play usually. Now, I'm gigging regularly, but I'm also not one of those people who feels more watts always equals better. I like to over think forever before i make a decision. I'm on the cusp of pulling the trigger to order the 100t plus 4x10, and I just need to convince myself I'm not gonna be regretting that I skipped on the SB. I'm sure I may want one down the road, but that is yet to be seen when/if. I hate buyers remorse, and the shop that I'm buying from is my guy here locally who does everything I need practically, he just can't justify bringing both amps in with my cab so I can try them and only buy one. And I would feel awful buying one, then returning it to buy the other.
