Hey guys, at the moment I own a Line 6 150 Lowdown and an Ampeg rocket B100r. Of the 2, I love the sound of the Ampeg best. While cruising GC today, I came across a Fender 250/210 combo. I plugged in a Geddy and started to play. Immediately I notice a more fuller sound (specially when sapping). Although a loud and busy music shop can be hard to tell what sounds good. I think I got a good impression. Having said that, I don't have a need for another amp. So, should I keep the Line 6 or trade up for the Bassman 250? Which offers a better overall value?

Hey RickenBoogie, I'm not ready for the next level just yet. I'm still a practicing novice. I was just wondering if the Bassman 250/210 was a better amp than the Line 6 LD150. Basically, seeking others who have experienced both. The line 6 is a nice learning and practice amp which may be capable of a small venue one day. My Ampeg has a much deeper and fuller tone that I look for. When I played the bassman 250, it just sounded right, but again it was in a busy shop. I also wanted to know about it's durability, being that it is made in Indonesia (though my BDEC 30 seems to be built quite nicely and is also Indonesian made)

mellow_bedwetter, thanks for he input. Would you be able to give me anymore insight i.e. How long have you owned it, how much is it used, and issues with electronics? How does it marry (sound) with the Geddy and do you uses any other basses with it? are there any effects?

I know that it may seem lengthy, but I'm trying to hit a sale that ends on thursday and am trying to collect as much info as possible. If the Bassman turns out to be a better amp, then I would be giving up the line 6 for it. The Ampeg stays of course.

I play a Fender Standard(MIM)Jazz through it to. I've played an Ibanez SR500 and an SRX505(5 string)through it too. Both sounded good, the 2x10 held the "B" string just fine. There's plenty of volume and power for small to medium size gigs.
It has one control for active or passive basses. This works pretty good. I don't hear a lot of difference when using the compressor control, I guess it does something though. The Room Balance control is pretty neat. You can use the control to change the tones for different settings such as playing in a place with wood floors or carpet...etc. The tone control consist of a bass, 2-band EQ, and treble. Basically, bass, mids, and treble. This gives you the capability of many different sounds. Personally I like the deep, mellow sound when I play country but mess with the controls and the amp does a good job with rock. One thing I don't like is you can't use an external cabinet with it. You can but in order to do this you have to disconnect the amp's internal 2x10's which kind of defeats the purpose of an external cab, IMO.
I've had the amp for about a year and so far(knock on wood)I've had no problems.
I was going to get the Ampeg 220 watt with 2x10's but when I tried the Bassman I opted for it. It's also louder.
Overall I like the amp. As I stated I've had no problems so far so I would recommend it to someone. There are a lot of nice combo's out there though. I would like to try an Ashdown but the only shop around me is a GC and they don't carry them. I want to try an amp before I buy it, but that's just me.
