Fender Bassman 250/210

Hey everyone Happy New Year ! !

Quick question:

I have a Fender Bassman 250/210 combo amp. The outputs on the rear panel of the amp, has 2 -1/4 inch output jacks as well as a speakon output jack.... if it is believed that you cannot run an extension cabinet off this amp like another 2x10 cab for instance, why then are the outputs there? Hopefully I am missing something here and am ready to learn something new... !

Any and all inputs and advice will be greatly appreciated !

Fender is talking about all the Bassman combos here. Quote:
"The Fender philosophy is that a 100 watt portable combo should actually be 100 watts internally. We believe most customers are buying a combo for it's portability. Why buy a combo AND an extension speaker and have to carry them both around to achieve full power? Bassman models have their speaker plugged in externally allowing the user to unplug the internal speaker and plug in any external speaker they would like to power."

From the way I'm understanding that is, you can run an external cabinet...just NOT while using the internal speakers.
You could swap out the internal speakers with some new one's and change the internal load to 8 ohms, then you could add a 8 ohm extension cab for the full 4 ohm load.

The Bassman 250 was also available as a head only, in addition to the 250/115 and 250/210 combos. That's why there are two output jacks there, in case you wanted to drive two 8-ohm cabs with it. But no extension cabs for the combos without changing out the drivers. Even then, with only 125W each to the internal drivers/external cab, you're not looking at a whole lot of oomph or headroom.

But those combos have a perfectly good DI out, so they make dandy on-stage monitors if you're going to FoH.
