Fender Bender (MIM edition)

So I'm looking at 2 fenders currently listed on CL. One is a 1995 jazz that apparently has been sitting in a closet since it was received as a gift. The other is an active deluxe jazz. I was going to get a Squier VM Jazz, but these are only a bit more, with both being listed around 400.

I know there may be issues with the 95, especially with the neck, but are there any other concerns? And how about the comparison between the two? I currently have an LTD active P/J. thoughts?

Thanks!

I think the price on the 1995 is too high. It is either one of the "traditional series" basses, or one of the "Squier Series" basses with the "Squire Series" emblem removed from the end of the head stock. And the pick guard is one piece, looks like a single ply without a seperate control plate.

Now, I am not saying there is anything wrong with the 1995 or that it is a bad bass, just that I think it is priced too high for what it actually is.

Pickguard was one concern i had, because i'd definitely be changing it out, and from what I read, 95s are hard to find guards for.

Tried them both out. Both were kinda crap. The "perfect" 95 had some bad electronics. The bridge pup didn't even kick on until 9! They were both kinda scratchy. Not knowing enough of the internal workings, I wasn't willing to risk getting something I may have to put more in to for repairs. The deluxe wasn't bad, but not well cared for. Strings and screws on the pick guard were rusty. Owner wasn't sure what all the knobs did (my fault for not researching before going, but I figured out most of them). nice low action, though. Neither were bass players for all intents and purposes and got their prices off of ebay. If i had the spare change, i'd probably get the deluxe, but I'd rather have something more "out of the box" ready than these two.

Think I'll stick with my original plan on getting a Squier VM Jazz :)
