Fender Blacktop Club

Hey doods! First timer here (be nice)

So I've had my BT Pbass for almost a year now, and while i'm loving it i feel now is the time to do some modding.

I'm going to get it a maple neck. Probably just a mexican or something similar.

But im stuck on Bridges - Can anyone suggest a better bridge that would bolt straight in? I'm a bit of new guy to bass, but i feel like it deserves something better.

Also I'm looking at pick up Configs, and I'm thinking of getting some quarter pounders.

Thoughts and advice would be AWESOME!

Cheers,

What is it specifically that you don't like about the bridge? That would help people make a suggestion.

I swapped my original bridge for a black Gotoh 201B, which was a direct fit...

Not that I found anything wrong with the original bridge, though... I just wanted to mod my bass with black hardware.

I use a Fender Vintage bridge.
Threaded saddles.
Works just fine.

I dont really like the 'look' of it. Looks Tacky in my opinion. I was just wondering if most P bass bridges are sized up to be about the same.

Yeh that looks good, i've been starring at my bass wondering what it'd look like with a black bridge, but i'm thinking chrome bridge and get some chrome knobs as well.

Cheers!

Actually the original bridge and the Gotoh 201 are quite similar to each other, with the 201 having only a slightly smaller footprint - So I don't think you will notice much difference from the original if you go for a chrome Gotoh 201.

If I were you, I'd save the money as you won't benefit much in the change - On the 201 the end part of the bridge is actually hollow and you can see the ball end of the strings, as they aren't recessed as they are on the original bridge.

You can se my pictures of my blacked out P with a 201 bridge on page 5 of this thread.

Btw, what colour is your BT P???

And while I'm back in town;

I ain't got no dime to put in the Jookbox, baby…so you'll just have to settle for Number 23. Enjoy your shiny new Prime Number!

What kind of pickguard were you thinking about? There's a lot that can go nicely with a black body. Also, which model Hipshots did you put on? The ones specifically for MIMs?

So the black pickguard has grown on me. I'll keep it for a while.:D I got the Hipshot HB7 set which are direct replacements. I've also soldered in new 250K pots/orange cap which worked out great! Loving this bass.

Gotta love that HB7! Just the other night I took it off my Parts-Bass Projekt and moved it to my Blacktop Jazz. 100% perfect fit…no need for any additional screw holes.

Hello there. Wanted to know if I could join the club?

I just traded my standard p bass in blizzard pearl for the blacktop jazz in chrome. It's almost the same color, so my wife will never know. I originally was looking at a used 90's mim jazz, but this one came home instead. Needs a little setup, but it sounds HUGE!

Congrats on your successful trade! We'll try to keep the noise down so your wife won't suspect a thing. :ninja:

In the meantime, please accept this number we like to call "24" 'round these parts. May this integer, this whole number, if you will, serve you as well as it has the rest of the Arabic-Numeral-System-Using-World.

Well this is what I am settling with.
My hot-rodded parts Blacktop with some mods. I added a finger pull for a vintage vibe. I use it sometimes too, but not as much as I would on a P-bass.
Strung up with Fender flats: .050 -.100, I have fallen in love with these strings; which I did a review on:

I have more pics at my NBD page:

Keep on keepin' on!

Finger pull? Does the bass fart when you use it? Lol
