2011 MIM Blacktop P

I can't speak for the Precisions. I haven't had a chance to try one out yet. In fact, none of my basses have a humbucker, so talk about "limited experience".

That being said, the reason I got my Jazz is two-fold; I prefer the slimmer Jazz neck and then there is the sound. The cannon-like roar of doubled P-pickups never ceases to amaze me. If I want a classic P-bass sound, I roll off the bridge pickup. But I like a more aggressive tone, so I usually bring the bridge up to anywhere between 50% to 100%. Then I adjust the tone knob to get the "snarl" I dig.

May I join the group? Got my White Chrome Pearl Blacktop P in July '11. The guy at Cincy Sam Ash brought it to me right off the truck - I was able to dial up a sound I liked in about 3 seconds - and I've been gigging like a maniac on it ever since. Pics coming soon.

I've got a 2012 Blacktop Jazz in black. My go to player for almost a year. Completely stock right now but this thread has inspired me to consider some mods. I noticed the on/off nature of the volume knobs, so I will look into 250k pots. May move onto pickups too, my neck pup is almost too round and woody sounding. I like it, but even rolling back the bridge pup a bit results in the neck going to max, with no variation between bridge at 90% and bridge at 0%. Suggestions?

Favourite setting right now is both pups on full and tone rolled off a bit. I use rotosounds 66 strings, USA SVT cl through 810, or PF-500 through 410.

Very happy with it overall. Maybe a different pickguard to make it more unique.
