Fender Blacktop Club

Realized that I hadn't posted mine. Bought it several months ago and play it regularly. Recently put a set of DR Fat beams on it and it sounds even better.

Only modification is a set of Dunlop Dual Design straplocks.

May I join?!

So...I am now the proud owner of the WCP jazz that ShadowVampyre recently sold through the classifieds. (The decal inlays were the main selling point btw.)

After working with my tone for a week in the shed, we had a band reheasal last night after a 2 week break. Our guitarist noticed it immediatley after it was uncased. Both he and the drummer were very interested in all of details and loved the color scheme. (Our singer, who arrived slightly late, as usual, did not seen to notice.)

This was my first chance to let it rip and I was not disappointed! About half way through the practice, the guitarist (who has great gear himself) said whatever tone settings I am using, keep 'em, because it sounds awesome!

We play mostly hard rock, 90's thru current with some classic rock mixed in and this Blacktop Jazz will be a great addition to my Standard Fender P, black on black maple.
Our next show is May 17th.

Glad to hear it Chains! I LOOOOVEed the color and look of this bass, and really loved the tone, especially with the upgraded electronics (made a HUGE difference!).

hehe, i loved the bass so much that I looked at what it would take to swap necks to a 5 string, new bridge for 5, etc.. since all I play is 5 strings now (P bass necks preferred). too much money...

Anyhow, I am really glad you and your band love it, makes me happy that it went to a good home!!

Enjoy! (heheh without pics.. .well you know....)

I forgot to mention the electronics. It seems many of these models had volume issues where the volume would jump from 0-9. Your upgrades allow for a smoother volume flow ranging anywhere between 0 thru 10 on both pups.

In light of the surge in membership requests, I'm updating the Master List once again.

And if anyone is wondering, I'm keeping ShadowVampyre on the list, what with his legacy as a founding member of this club AND for his undying support for such an awesome example of musical technology and innovation.

"I have also upgraded the volume and tone pots to CTS pots (Fender Vintage Jazz), as well as an orange drop capacitor for much better tone and more sweep. This totally opened up the range of sound."

This is direct quote from ShadowVampyre in his for sale post 2 weeks ago.

I ended up solving the volume issue by installing an Audere JZ3 preamp. It was a quick install with the jazz plate version and I've been very happy with both volume control and tonal options it opened up. Just thought I'd mention it for possible alternative! Of course, YMMV.
