Fender Blacktop Club

Just replaced my pick guard.

Joining SOOOOON.

I'm a jazz bass "enthusiast" so I'm grabbing a BT and then probably a MP (after).

So - consensus here is that to get the "P element" you need flats. Anything else pertinent about the character of the BT jazz?

Of course until I sit and play with it on my rig it'll be hard to tell but- what type of music does everybody play with their BT jazz?

Beastly! :hyper:

Loudly! :D

Hmm…that sounds like the title of some bass-guitar-themed chick flick…"Truly…Beastly…Loudly". I kinda like it.

I play my BT Jazz with Fender 9050 flats and it brings out the best in these PuPs.
Mine's a little different tho, I have a fretless Precision neck on it. It's a P-bass in disguise...

Nice PG Aetheriac, I keep wondering if that color scheme would work with the Chrome Pearl. I just don't want to lay down the bucks to find out.

edit: I just saw ShadowVamp's post. Looks pretty cool but I'm sticking with black I guess, I'm 50/50 on it.

Welcome new members! We BT members will rule the universe some day!

Looking for some advice:

Let me preface this by saying I have basically zero knowledge of electronics...

I know for sure I want to mod my blacktop P controls to V/B/T instead of V/V/T. I'm also considering switching out pickups/adding preamp. I actually have a Dean Edge Q4 w/ passive EMG HZs and some onboard preamp that sounds great. I guess my question would be...how much of that great sound is the soapbar pickups and how much is the preamp?

Should I just start by adding a preamp to my Blacktop and leave the stock pickups or should I just swap those as well?

And physically how would it work? If I added a 3 band EQ I'd need 3 stacked pots Vol/Bass, Blend/Mid, Tone/High (or does adding the EQ mean I won't have a tone knob at all?)?

***EDIT...I think this is what I need/want. 2-band EQ stacked tone pot:

One thing I can tell you is that A LOT of the tone you're getting out of that preamp is from the preamp mizz. I think you'd be doing your blacktop a good service by placing that preamp into it. Not sure how big the cavity is in there, so you may have to route. But I think it'd be worth it.

Okie-dokie! Time to do a little dusting around the clubhouse and issue some numbers. Sorry 'bout the wait, Guys!

(That reminds me; do we have any Gals in this club?)

This should bring our happy little club's membership roster up to date. Let me know if I missed someone and I'll fix it, posthaste.

I get an upload error when I try to post my pic.It says I may not have permission to access this feature. Will try to figure it out and post.

Can you get yourself set up with a Photobucket account? It's free, it gets the job done well enough, but sometimes a little cranky. (you get what you pay for, eh?)
