I wouldn't even think of replacing the stock pickups in my Precision Blacktop.

I think if I were to replace the pups in mine, it would have to be something from Lace.

You could always get one of their pickguards and use it as a template.
That's a good idea, I didn't think of that. Do you know if the neck pickup is the same size as the bridge pickup?
Relinquishing my number, no longer own either model. Great basses, just hated the Chrome White Pearl color once I got it. And foolishly sold my black Jazz.
I took mine to the local Fender dealer today to see if he'd give me a price to take it off my hands. He declined.

I mentioned how noisy mine is today, and it was suggested that the coils in those pickups are not in parallel, but in series. That would explain why they're so powerful.

Well, I took off the strings & the pickguard, desoldered the neck pickup connections to the volume pot & took the shrink wrap off of the white & green.
White to Black = 7k Ohms
Green to Red = 7k Ohms
Tomorrow, I'm going to re-wire the neck pickup to this configuration:
Black & Green to ground
White & Red to volume
Then, I will compare if it's quieter than the bridge pickup.
If that works out, I will look into wiring both pickups in parallel, but then in series with one another.
White to Black = 7k Ohms

Is a little strange those red wires going to the middle pin of the volume pots... Always I saw this wires going to the pin number 3 and the middle pin going to the hot jack.
The wire from the pickup needs to go to the center lug, because that's where the wiper is connected.
When you roll the volume back, the wiper goes towards the grounded pin 1 and thus shorts out the signal.
It would work with the lead from the pickup to pin 3, but might not completely shut off the signal when the volume is rolled back.
