Yea you have to order them. Just as an advice, if you want the gray gunmetal color and go to guitar center, they have to call fender to order it.

Fender Blacktop Jazz: WOW!

Yea you have to order them. Just as an advice, if you want the gray gunmetal color and go to guitar center, they have to call fender to order it.
I played a Blacktop Precision yesterday, and it is a nice bass. I think it is less unique the Blacktop Jazz since it follows the two humbuckers close to the bridge formula. It is a bass that could easily be turned to a five string version.
I played it again today, just to see if I really liked it as much as I thought I did. I do!
Seriously, the dual P-pups deliver a Jazz tone that is perfect to my ears. The funny thing is that the neck pup does not quite get a Precision tone soloed. I think it may be too far up the neck. The back pickup does deliver a killer bridge tone once you adjust the tone just a bit.
As I said before, I am really considering this bass despite the fact that I don't think it would ever be a main bass because it is a four. I'm sure I could use it sometimes, but it would be ball just to slap around on it.

I really hope my local guitar center gets one of these soon...I've never played a Dual P pickup bass.
I've tried both models out at the local Long and McQuade. I wasn't really into the Blacktop P-Bass(not into jazz pickup tones anyway), but I absolutely loved the Blacktop Jazz. I've already told my wife that if anyone asks what I want for Christmas, just let them know a gift certificate for L&M would be fine.

I've got an '84 Precision Elite II that has dual split p/ups. It's freaking awesome!

These really caught my eye,I have always thought a double P would be a cool score. The old Electra/Westone always looked good. The thing that holds me back on the Fender is that everyone who plays one says it is jazz voiced. That's cool, but I have a Jazz ! I'd like to hear one with a couple of fat muscular P pickups, like 62's or QP's or ??? Wonder if anyone has gone this route ?
