Fender Custom Shop Club

Well I finally took the plunge and bought a Custom Shop Jazz Bass today! 64 Relic, I've been wanting one for a very long time.

Very nice! :) Is this a new-one, or a used-one?
Tell us impressions!

I ran across this one hanging on the used wall at my local guitar center. Pulled it down, played it, checked the case that had the COA in it and jumped on it.

Now, I'm a total fender fan boy. MIM, MIJ, MIA, I love'um all. I have an especially wide soft spot for sunburst fenders to boot, so it was kind of a no-brainer. I have to say everything about this bass is awesome. The relic job is tastefully done and feels real. The neck is so smooth, dare I say boarder line perfect, and the pick-ups totally nail it. Oh, it was born early March, 2008.

Welcome Jwood...you're #28...and yes sunburst does it for me as well...

Yes, I do own the AVR, for now it's listed in the classifieds. I bought the CS planning to sell my reissue. Both are similar but the CS just feels much smoother.
Oh, another thing I would like to ask in order to refresh my memory: how do you compare the necks? I played the CS and the NAV over a year ago and not in the same store, so I don't quite remember that.

So how does this Custom Shop thing work? I know there are "stock" models but what kind of tweaking can you do? Is it all done through email and phone calls?
I'm not in the financial spot to order one now but I am hoping things will change sometime in the next year. What I'm considering at the moment is a Invalid Link Removed but I want it done PostModern style like the Invalid Link Removed. Postmodern Jazz neck, tuners, bridge (with vintage cover), heal contour. I want to keep the overall look of the white 1960 Journeyman Relic with the tortoise shell pick guard and the dual stacked knobs but make it a "modern-ish" machine.
Is this the kind of custom bass the Custom Shop does? Assuming I'z got's the cash?

Check my CS '64 You can definitely have what you want, in a Team-Built order. Things to keep in mind:
  1. The pricing depends more on your dealer than on what the sheet mentions.
  2. If you want a 1960 Jazz Bass with Postmodern features, you should mention 1960 Jazz Bass as your base-model (even if it is not listed in the quote sheet, your dealer will understand); the Postmodern Bass features a Precision Body, as you already know.
Taking into consideration that my CS '64 was a custom order and the fact that everybody here is always happy to help with any question, don't hesitate to ask! :)

! :)
What I was trying to say was I wanted a 60"s Jazz bass version of the Postmoder P bass but with the bridge cover and the 1960 Jazz color scheme. Maybe next year they will introduce the PostModern in Jazz? I don't really want a P body, J pickups and J neck. Know what I mean?

Both necks feel great and similar to me but I prefer the relic job in the end. I bought the CS with the thought of selling my AV BUT... I think both will be staying in the rotation!
