Fender Custom Shop?

Hi all,

I had a question regarding the Fender Custom Shop.
I thought it was just a more "elite" expensive Fender range, but our guitarist told me they do custom (Oh ... that is where they got the name from.) (bass)guitars aswell.
So how does that work? And what is the price range? And most important do they do lefties.
Thanks in advance

From what I can tell, they're more about doing signature and specialty instruments. It's not like a luthier where you can ask for particular specs and they'll make it for you.

They will do custom versions of P and J basses. You can specify materials, colors, finishes, etc. that aren't available on the standard offerings. Quality and workmanship are first-rate IME and IMO.
Contact TBer "SamJ" He's special-ordered at least two CS Jazzes that I'm aware of. They looked incredible.

Edit: I'm sure they can do a lefty.

The prices start at around $2100 for a "team built" (built by a team of people) bass. I believe a "master built" (built by one luthier from start to finish) is closer to $4K. The price can go as high as your imagination and bank account will bear.

MF offers a the four string Custom Classic Jazz. Here's a link to the fiver: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/prod...ass-V-5string-Electric-Bass-Guitar?sku=515032

They can do a lot. I used to have a Fender custom, and there are some things they can't do (contractual obligations), and some things they will only do if you're famous, but for the most part, it really is a custom shop. Not all Fender dealers are Fender Custom Shop dealers, but talk to a Fender CS dealer for more details and to get a quote for what you want. If you're going for a "Master Built" instrument (as opposed to their modified stock "Team Built" instruments), the luthier will actually call you to discuss the details personally and you just pay for it through the dealer.

Custom-built Fenders are *not* cheap. Unless you really, REALLY want it to say Fender on the headstock, try a Valenti, etc, or buy a Fender neck and have Nino do the rest and save yourself a couple grand.
