Fender decals on not-really-Fender basses

If Fender doesn't care as long as you're not reselling it, you are free to do what you want. I'd rather have a real 70's fretless maple neck, but at least I feel ok about this option to put a crappy sticker on a Fender-licensed neck.

I bought a 2007 Squier Precision. The seller was upfront about having changed the logo to Fender and having engraved an "F" on the neck plate, just for kicks. He purposely left the CYxxxxxxxxx serial number on the back of the headstock, so it could be checked. It's all very neatly done, and only a knowledgeable person would be able to tell the difference.

Now, I don't approve of the practice at all, and would just as soon have the Squier logo on there, but this bass turned out a keeper for me, and if I ever want to sell it I'll be sure to inform any takers about its identity.

No!

I've said repeatedly if I do end up swapping a decal at some point it either will get removed.

Sold here (TB) with full disclosure.

Or like anything else I have it'll sit there and collect dust, lol I don't EVER sell anything.

I had a cool parts bass a few years back that turned into a nightmare. It had a Squier body, Mighty Mite neck, Am pickups and hardware. It had a Fender repro decal and a Custom Shop looking logo with my name on the decal. I sold it on eBay to satisfy GAS for something else and it has floated around since. I have had people look me up on the internet asking me about the "custom" bass thinking it was really worth something. When I listed on eBay I made a big deal about the 'NOT A REAL FENDER" but that hasn't mattered. I think one guy was going to pay 2k for it, but fortunately he looked me up first. I saved him a real headache since I only had $200 total in it. If I ever see it on eBay again I'll have eBay kill the auction. What a mess.

These threads pop up occasionally and I have, as others have,suggested the exact same scenario before that once it leaves your hands, despite your best intentions, the new owner may be less than honest. We have been flamed for our view the common come back is "I'll never sell it"" "Buyer beware", "Anyone can tell the difference" etc.

Thanks for your story. I find it interesting that you feel responsible and want to kill it. Maybe you had just best buy it so you can forget about it. ;)
