I love the 9050L set. I’ve used them on both top loader and through body basses. I’ve used 9050L, Chromes, and Ernie Ball group 3 all on my string through bass with so ill side effects.

I personally don't like the idea of putting any flats thru-body as the outer flat ribbon wire doesn't take a sharp break angle behind the saddle as well as rounds.
Contrary to what some manufacturers might claim, the thru-body method does not have any practical benefit over the top-load method in terms of tonal quality - at least not that I've experienced.
Objectively I think the break angle causes the winding to separate, which compromises the durability of the string.Thank you for all the replies. Just curious why string through body isn’t preferred. I had originally installed LaBella LTF on the bass through the body and the D string is giving an odd sound when I play an open string. When I apply a little finger pressure on the string it goes away. The relief is good. I was thinking maybe the gauge being .56 might be too thin for the nut. I’ve used these strings before on a through body on a different bass with no issues. Was thinking the .60 gauge of the Fender 9050L might fit better.
Those already have separations in the wind by design, so I think they behave more like a roundwound in this situation anyway. Excellent strings if a bit sticky.I've had EB Colbalt Flats thru body on my Stingray Classic 5 for about 8 years. Never a problem.
Give them a few weeks to months the really settle into their sound. I’ve got a set that’s been in use since 2019 on my CV50s p and I swear they just keep sounding better.I installed the strings, gave the truss rod just about 1/8 of a turn first. The action is fantastic, nice and low, no string buzz and no odd noise from the open D string that I was experiencing with the previous set. The strings seemed very pliable when I put them on and the tension is perfect. Not too stiff or loose. A little bright but I know they will tame down with some use. So far very happy. Haven’t had a chance to plug them in yet but so far so good.
Certainly; they're your strings, and it's your bass. Personally, I try very hard, not to tell people what to do with their stuff...I have a set of Fender flatwound strings 45-60-80-100 I want to put on my Fender Precision Bass Special (Jazz Neck). Can I install these through the body. I’ve heard some flatwounds you can’t install through body. How is the tension on these from anyone who has experience with them. I’m assuming I’ll need to tighten the truss rod a little over the factory Fender round wounds which are 45-105.
