Did the gotohs change your tone at all? I put some on a tokai apb-57… and it just lost something. Came off after just a couple days

i reckon that the difference in mass could cause an audible effect. lighter or heavier ~

At the time period there is a high probability that they are US pickups but I don't know how to identify pickups of that era. I know that the Fulelrton series did NOT use special made vintage voiced pickups they just used the standard precision pickups of the day.

I buy it- catalog doesn’t make any marketing distinction between the std and vintage reissue.

That's what I remember being told but I will also say my memory is not what it used to be. I think some pickup experts were talking about it on the fender forums years back and I also remember someone who said they were a dealer at the time saying they don't remember any special marketing about the pickups.

Thought you guys might find this videos interesting. He compares an original 59 to an avri from 82. Too bad it's not the original pickup as that would have been just a perfect comparison. He thinks the Fullerton reissues comes the closest to the real thing, including CS etc.. (as others with similiar experinces have also stated in this forum before)

IME it depends in the heaviness of the bass. I've put lighter tuners on boat anchor basses and noticed no change in tone.
I've also gotten light weight basses that just didnt quite have the attack or hit, so installed the heavier version tuners on, and bam! there it is.

I bought my late 1982 avri Fullerton Precision brand new at GC in San Jose, a few miles away was KK Music, and they explained that those pickups were special, and were to a large extent the reason to have that bass. They were experts, and my memory is fine. Body was swapped out years later due to it being trashed, so now has 1983 Elite body and pickups.

i like the right better.. but if the left is original then that’s what i would have on it.
