This. It should have a longer screw for the G for that year of Fender. I've always thought that was one of the dumbest things Fender ever did. "Oops. We put the bridge on too far back. Instead of moving it forward, let's just put a longer intonation screw on there for the G!"
It works, and it possibly saved a bunch of mis-drilled bodies from the scrap heap. I have no problem with it, it was a simple and perfectly functional solution. And the factory installed bridge cover hid the bridge anyway. Not really an inelegant solution at all.
