I’m sure if you read the title, you either scrolled past or opened right away lol. That’s right I’m doing one! I’ve seen all the one-off’s and I’m finally gonna get this going. They really should’ve did a bass version too it looks way too good!
I reached out to Rosser Guitars on eBay to see if they would make me a body with just the control cavity (figured it’s a good starting point rather than completely blank). They left the neck pocket untouched as well. They make these with African mahogany, a little bit heavier than I wanted but I’m going to contour it to relief some weight. But the first thing I got to start this journey was my pickup choice. I’m not going with the versions we’ve all seen (mustang + J combo). I got something way cooler! I found a Gibson DC tribute bass humbucker someone had swapped out of theirs! I have that bass & I LOVE its sound. So I’m going to mount just that single pickup and use the push/pull splitting option. The mahogany body should compliment it like the Gibson bass. With the body mapped out, I’ve been waiting and refreshing my searches constantly for a nice mustang neck with a rosewood board. I finally found one that posted today from a guy in NH. 2016 offset series neck loaded with a rosewood fingerboard! All that’s left is a pickguard and bridge now. I used my spare PJ stang pickguard to get a general idea of what it’s gonna look like this isn’t final.
