I just picked up a late 90's MIJ '75 Reissue Jazz for my son off of eBay. It is one of natural ones with a rosewood board. It came with a G&G tweed case and the bass was like new....$520. This bass plays and sounds as good as any MIA bass I've tried. I've had some MIJ stuff previous and I have always been very impressed.

Great thread. I just picked up a '91 PB62 from eBay for about $500 shipped. Should be interesting to see how it sounds. Never had a P-bass so I am excited about it. Should have it this week and I will post pictures when it arrives.

I'll back it up all the way from exp with my '62 CIJ Jazz (CAR btw, surely they still do that colour? They'd have to . .).

The USA Vintage pups are a must, as is alder (no other pups or basswood).

The only complaint I've had is regarding the pots which I was just about to change.

IMHO (of course) I've always preferred the CIJ to any others including MIA.
The US RI costs 4X the CIJ here in Oz so it doesn't even make the starting grid.

Sorry, I'll have to disagree. I'll limit my comments to the MIJ Marcus Miller.

The frets, hardware, and wood are not on a par with the US models. In particular, the frets and made out of much cheaper material, and are not dressed as well, resulting in higher action on the whole. The wood quality also results in an inferior tone.

Sorry to say there are major qualitative differences that result is inferior playability and tone. But on the whole, there are decent instruments, but not on a par with USA models.

I think by my experience is that the MIJ between 82-87 were probably as good if not better than some of the basses MIA now.Like comparing the MIJ LYTE DELUXE bass, it was made out of MAHOGANY & is just an incredible bass in feel, sound & looks.They tried to counter the discountinued DELUXE LYTE with the AMERICAN DELUXE ZONE which was not as good as the LYTES imo. I had read some good reviews about the MIA ZONE DELUXE but not like the MIJ LYTE DELUXE.
