Fender Japan Silver Series Basses

I did a search but didn't find much on this. I see there are a lot of Squier Silver Series made in Japan basses, but does anyone know anything about the Fender Silver Series basses made in Japan? I saw one for $699, but I don't know if that's good deal or bad deal.

I own a 1991-1992 Squier Precision Silver Series, MIJ. L02028x serial.

It has Basswood body (checked... I've had to use toothpicks to attach screws due basswood softness), narrow frets and 40.5mm width @ nut (1.59") neck with walnut stripe. Pickguard is one ply. The previous owned told me that this "blood" red is unusal to see as it was produced for japanese market only. I don't really know, but it's really nice.

Mine has all the neck back bare, no traces of any lacquer... I suppose it was gone time ago by use and wear as the headstock's lacquer seems to be thin. Its stock pickup has very good output (a bit hot, I'd say) but a bit bright for my taste. Don't get me wrong, it sounds like a Precision but I rather prefer a darker sound, hence I swapped it for an EMG GZR set. It resulted in the woody sound I was looking for. It nails Geezer's tone. Surprisingly the same set (P/J version) went absolutely wrong in my Jazz Bass Special, basswood body too, and the sound was awful.

And for the price, I payed 300€ (around $342) for it, its asking price was 350€ (around $399). Very good price here in Spain. I think $699 is a very high price, IMHO.

No problem. No harm done. Lots written about the Squier silver series and by all accounts they are nice basses.
