Hi guys. I would like to ask you about this bass:

My best friend is on tour in Mexico and this bass cost U$S1450.

The paint was removed, it was sanded and natural color, some screws and the bridge pins are not original and I am told that perhaps a potentiometer is not original, from there on out everything is original, the serial number is related to the year of manufacture is between 1972 and 1973, the fender page rounded to 1973 but put it on other sites in 1972.

Do you think that this is original? is it worthy to buy?

that bass looks absoutely authentic to me. the color of the pickguard is correct. the heads are correct (non 'r' Fender clover leaf), alder body, block bound with adjuster at heel of the neck. it is easily worth $1450 (and IMO, more like $2000.00). if it's neck is straight, i'd jump all over that.

They are certainly the shiniest "non-circle-r" tuners I've ever seen. But I thought the "circle-r" tuners came along in mid-'72. Of course, as usual, I could be (and probably am) wrong. But clearer pictures would... er... clear things up! I'd especially like a clearer shot of the logo, as well as the butt of the neck and all those other shots that sellers include when they really try to sell a vintage bass.
I'd also like to check the truss rod as well as look into the possibility of a re-fret. The fuzzy pic of the side of the neck seems to show the ends of the frets protruding through the binding, which would indicate that they aren't original.
Even for a re-fin, $1450 is almost to good to be true. I would need more info before spending my own $.

True, but it becomes just one more thing that's not original, in something claimed to be "all original" except for some screws. The more I see that negates that claim, the more I become suspicious. Maybe that's not right, but it's a feeling I get. Just like I get from those shiny tuners. I could be wrong (and probably am).
