Fender Jazz Bass Special - Circa 1984-87

I'm not really into the ones other than the 'E' serials. But PJ-555 is the product number of the Boxer Series/Jazz Special. It's in the '86 boxer catalog under PJ-555 product number. I guess all JBS had run under this product number.
My '87 has the PJ-555 stamped on the neck pocket under the neck. Probably all of the others too.

It was a typo, I meant PJ-455. My bad.

It's a Fender Jazz Bass Special, MIJ circa 1984-87 -- purchased a couple years before Duff McKagan made them famous. I bought this when I was in high school in 1986 for around $350. I had originally ordered one in metallic silver, but impatience took over and I decided to grab it in black (in hindsight, a good decision). At the time, Geddy was playing the black Wal, and my bass had a similar look. It has a Precision body and a Jazz Neck. The back of the neck is matching black lacquer. P-J pickups with the cable jack in the edge instead of the top surface. It's in really good shape given it's age and ratty case, with only a few minor dings and scratches.

As a kid, I never got good enough to make it out of my buddy's basement, but I'm hoping to change that. I got away from playing over the past 20 years, but I've recently decided to pick it up again. I've only just "heard" my bass "for real" for the first time... having just purchased a GK 700RBII with an Avatar B212 cab. I'm looking forward to getting to know it better.

If you have one of these babies, I'd love to see some pics. I know they also came in metallic white, silver, and red.

The Jazz Bass Special was not offered in yellow.

iirc, only the PB-551 was offered in yellow.

I can't remember exactly but If I'm not mistaken you can find the color options/model in the catalog but I'm not sure. I seen one for sale years ago but never again.

Its in the catalog alright, but I've been searching far and wide for a pic of one in yellow. It seemed like it was a myth.

Now I can finally say that I've seen all colors.

So there's:
Pearl white
White
Red
Burgundy metallic
Pewter metallic
Yellow
Seafoam green
Black

unless there's another color I forgot about

I was such an idiot when I missed a seafoam back around September/October for a crazy fair price.

aye. I missed a pewter one for really cheap too. Dinged up pretty bad, but I wanted another color than pearl white. Than just as I got the scratch, it got sold. Got a pearl white one now, it's iconic but people think it's a Duff siggy.

I'm kinda tempted to get one of those brand new Sherwood green ones, just to harvest its body and place my original electronics in it.

I'm thinking about the same just in tor red lol. And have one for sale in pewter but with EMG's.
