Fender Jazz FSR feedback?

I bought mine in the LA guitar center and annoyingly carried it into the vintage room where I compared it to $20K versions with a B-18N.

They gave me a pretty good deal, I think the price was $330.

4 piece ash body, very straight neck. stays in tune going from warm house to cold car, to cold practice space. Humidity does seem to change the intonation a bit.

no hard edges on the frets, but the nut was cut funny and the strings are unevenly spaced. The G string is closer to the edge of the fret board, so sometime vigorous fingering causes the string to come off the fretboard.

The pickups are quiet and the ash body resonates like crazy.

I got mine from GC with a tort guard, and they had two of them. The one I have is a 2006 production. I don't think they are still making them, but this 2006 batch just got to stock at GC a few months ago, and being lefty, I'm sure there are still many in stock at GC around the country.

The one at Musicians Friend is the 2004 production with the white pickguard, and that I think that has run dry.

Don't ever believe what a Guitar Center salesperson tells you. Call other GC around your area, or State, and ask if they have stock, although these are the type of basses that you need to try before you buy, though.

I bought mine right after the holidays, I am totally pleased with this bass. It definately resonates like no other and I can nail so many different tones to it. Remember this is an Ash/Rosewood combination, so you can get a wide variety of tones with it. I play from all styles of Reggae, to Funk, to Blues,Rock, etc. I just really like it and for the amount I wanted to spend I think I got a great deal. It has a lot more bottom end and punch it seems like than it's Alder brother. Matched with some flats it sounds warm and beautiful.

I bought an FSR P last summer from MF (MF, Musician's Friend and GC are all owned by the same outfit). Mine came with a tort pickguard, very nice ash body, well made bass overall.

The only things I didn't like about it were the rosewood fingerboard and medium jumbo frets (I prefer the "vintage" small frets) but since I was replacing the neck I didn't worry much about it.

If they made 'em with a maple fingerboard and small frets I'd buy one to replace my Classic '50s P.
