Fender Jazz Help

Hello,

I'm in the process of purchasing this Fender Jazz bass. "Love at First Sight" need to stop being with my heart :)

The seller says its a MIJ 85-65 unlined fretless and the close up of the serial number shows it does start with a C. (awaiting email with full serial number)

However i can't find any records of them making an unlined fretless in Japan at that time.

I could just be being paranoid but thought i would ask the wise sages here first.

Any thoughts?

He's blurred out the serial number which has given the wood a distorted/discolored look.

I think it is just the faded yellow color that Fender Japan used at the time. It looks like the same color as that on my 87 Strat but it looks to me like the Fender waterslide has been sanded off and reapplied producing a much less aged look surrounding the serial number which makes me wonder if it was a Squier originally.

I don't have any decent pics of mine handy but you get the idea. It's got a black headstock w/ black tuners. All JB Specials look pretty similar (not to be confused with the 2011 models). It's an E Series which were 1984-1987 (officially but mine seems to be from '88).
