2 weeks ago I purchased a 4-string M.Miller signature Jazz Bass.Even though its sound is killer,when i play with my band i find that the low E string doesn't have the presence and the tone i want to be heard.I also noticed that the string has a slight lower volume than the others.Would you suggest me moving the pickups closer to the strings or is it common for this type of bass to sound like that?I've already boosted me low-low middle frequencies using equalizer...Any suggestions...

It usually takes me a few jams to get the pickups set in a bass where the output is even. I would definitely raise the E side and possibly lower the G side, too.
How fresh is the "E" string? Be careful raising the MM's pups because it has "raised pole pieces", if you raise them too much the strings will touch and click when you play too hard. You also risk "warbling" or strange overtones from magnetic pull of the pole pieces.

i experienced the same thing with a brand new american fender i bought a year ago. it drove me mad.
for some reason the E string was just a little dead..no pop...and a little quieter.
i changed strings..adjusted pick ups..tried different set ups...let other people set it up....nothing helped....
and it wasn't EXTREMELY apparent....but it was there and i could tell....it drove me mad for months....
i traded it for another used jazz...now i am happy....
