Fender Jazz, then and now...

+ 30 years, +30 lbs, 30% hair remaining.

Left photo from mid 1980s, on a gig with Fujahtive in Toronto. Bass is a Fender American Jazz, sunburst, maple board with pearloid block inlays and white binding, circa 1974. The one bass I wish I'd never let go...

Right photo is present day, on a gig with my jazz/funk/blues group, Melodious Funk. Bass is a 2011 Fender Standard Jazz (MIM), candy cola red, maple board.

Why the downgrade?
Do you mean the bass?

For one, I was a stupid teenager/early 20s and sold/traded that 1970s era jazz for ... what I don't remember, back in the late '80s or early 90s... Probably should've just had a pro set-up and changed the strings...

Actually, I've found that the MIM Jazz is actually a REALLY nice instrument, very playable and great tone. From what I recall of the old Jazz bass, the MIM is lighter and more responsive. My current favorite bass is a Fender USA Special Precision...

If, by downgrade, you mean the wisdom, that's life...
