Fender Jazz V Prus help.....

Hi guy's,

I bought this Fender Jazz 5 strings back in 1993 or 94... from Ace Music in Miami, the manager told me at the time that they sold it originally brand new in 1990 to a member of the reggae band Inner Circle for about $2 grand, he used it and traded it in for an Yamaha 6 strings, he told me that the bass came originally with Bartolini pick ups from the Fender Custom Shop...

after that I showed it to several people and they all told me that Fender never sold a bass with Bartolini's.... that would be the end of the story but in 1997 or 98 I guy walked in my record shop in Brazil (Rio) with a bass in a soft case, I told him about my bass and he removed his from the bag.... he had the same exact bass with factory BARTLINI'S..... he purchased that bass in 1991 brand new in NY for $2.200.00

then in 2001 or 02 I found a guy selling the same looking one on ebay, I email him for details and he had purchased the bass brand new in the early 90's in California with BARTOLINI'S

I now know that the bass in question was sold from Fender with the Bartolini's installed and my question is if anyone knows anything about the history of this bass.... or know someone who does..

someone else told me it was a 1990 American Fender Jazz V Plus Custom... does that make sense??

I can't tell you much as I don't know much.

That is a Fender Jazz Plus V. I have owned a 4 string version and it had Lace Sensor pickups and a Kubucki preamp in it. Not sure if the Barts are factory or not but there are others who might know.

Barts were NOT standard on the Jazz Bass Plus. The Lace Sensors are standard. Bartolini has never really had a relationship with Fender, at least not as strong as Bartolini has with Gibson thanks to their Tobias and Steinberger products over the years.

Most likely the basses were upgraded by someone early on. I know that a few shops in NYC used to get some basses from Gibson and Fender and immediately upgrade the pickups because they knew the local studio and regular pro gigging musicians were gonna want them anyway. Maybe that is what happened.

The problem with that is all 3 basses were modified the same exact way??? in 3 different states??? (California, New York, Florida) by 3 different store chain??? the other 2 original owner told me they bought their basses brand new, direct from the stores just like that... no mods... btw all 3 basses were the same color... but I appreciate the responses.... does anyone knows a person who worked at Fender in 1990??

Not to piss on the parade, but does it really matter at this point? My dad's first name is not Leo, but I have never seen a Jazz Plus with factory Bartolini pickups.

I have owned a number of Jazz Bass Plus models (including serial # 00006), and none of them had Bartolini pups.

Those knobs look non-standard, too, by the way.
