Fender Jazz vs. Precision

I myself love both. I own an American Standard P-Bass and it sounds great, especially for rock, blues, and R&B. I love J basses also because they get a more rounded tone and they sound a lot better when slapped. I would describe a P's tone as warm and rather bassy, while a J would have a more rounded tone with more highs. Whatever you decide, they're both great basses, and I'm sure you'll be satisfied with either one! Peace!
I just bought a hot rodded p-bass. I prefer the p-bass neck, but that's a personal preference. I bought it mostly for the versatility in the types of sounds that I can get out of it, as I'm relatively new to the bass and I'm still defining my style.
If you're after the "big round sound", you'd probably like the P bass. Jazz
basses are more articulate as compared to P-Basses, which IMHO, lack
some definition. I prefer Jazz basses.
I did play the Fender Hot Rodded PJ. It felt and sounded okay, but it
sure didn't inspire me to play it for more than about five minutes. I
think they could have done it better.

Jazz for me too, I have 2, a 62 RI with a J-Retro, and a hybrid MIJ body with a MIA neck. TI flats on the 62, rounds on the other, I have a P-bass among others, but the Jazz suits my needs perfectly.
EBay has some Geddy's but the folks there want way too much $$, you're better off with BassNW in the long run.

Well, I've got a P-bass and I just love the classic Precision tone, but I'm starting to get more into the Jazz basses, for reasons others have mentioned. If you're still undecided, I'd say the J-bass edges it.(just!) I think that's what I'm going to have to invest in next...
The only P-basses i go nuts for is the P-J config basses. get the best of both worlds! i love the fender american deluxe p-bass that has the P/J pickup setting. sounds gggrrrrrrreat.
