Fender said:
The Fender Precision Bass has set the standard for electric bass tone since the 1950s. The Midnight Precision Bass takes that ‘50’s DNA a step further with its classy gloss Black finish, gold hardware and matching headstock. The vintage-style split-coil P Bass® pickup brings the thunder you’d expect. The tall, dark and handsome Midnight Precision Bass looks slick as it lays down the low end. Available now, for a limited time only.

Perhaps Fender wants to get away from the notion of MIJ>MIM.
Whatever the actual difference in quality, many players will likely assume the average MIJ bass is going to be better than the MIM bass.
Interesting that there are no specs listed, so we don't know important details like neck radius. I mean if I had to guess, I'd say 9.5" but you never know....
