fender mike dirnt p bass

It's Mexican. Very nice bass, kinda heavy. Fender has had off-an-on problems with the neck so get a professional to check it out before you buy.

(Of course if you're buying new, you can always send it back if it has issues.)

I didn't find the ones I've played any heavier than a '51 RI. How do you think its weight compares to your '50's Classic P-bass?

In any case, I am very surprised to hear this "on-an-off" neck thing. Can you be more specific?

This is the Mike Dirnt P-bass I used to own. I sold it a few months ago to fund travel to the mainland. It is a very well made bass that was very playable and sounded great. I will get another one in the future.

THAT is the one I want, that buttery look matches the amazing low-mids. Creamy and yet solid!!! :bassist:

Sorry you had to sell it. :(

Any neck issues?

You can read about some of the neck problems at Harmony Central. I had one that I bought used and the neck bowed a few days after getting it. It was fixed for a while by using the thrust rod. I loved thae bass though. Great tone, looked great, built like a tank, a bit heavy (though I was used to a semi hollow bass and I don't think it is that much heavier than my Skyline DJ4) and I liked the feel of the neck - I just didn't like the bowing of the neck. I would buy another but I would get it new just in case

Dr. Jim,

There are some reviews on Harmony Central that address neck issues. The one I had could not be adjusted to the low action I like. It was a nice bass, but I'm very happy with my '50's because that's what I wanted in the first place and it just happened to show up right after I got the Dirnt.

I'm sure most of the Dirnts are great. And that one Hawaii Islander has is awesum.

I've written about my experience anxiously awaiting the Dirnts when they came out.

I inspected a shipment of five identical ones. Only one was even adequate. Three were not so hot and one was absolute junk.

Based on that, I never bothered getting one.

MIMs have had -- at least until very recently -- really awful build QC. You occasionally get a decent one, but it's the exception. :(

This has to do with some management policies at the Ensenada plant that have also been discussed before.

Sorry, missed your Dirnt thread. Care to recite the details of your Dirnt shipment inspection? I am pretty certain EVERYTHING has been discussed before...care to share your insights on these sub-topics? :D

BTW--My early 2001 MIM 60's classic is great.
