Fender Musicmaster

Please read last post

Hello, I've ben using a Yamaha RBX4A2 for about 3 years now i was planning to buy me a Fender J-bass or a Gibson eb-3. While surfing i found this Fender Musicmaster

It's a 1972 model,Fretless,has some wears and it's 600$. How do you find it? Do you have any other recommendations?. I Also have found a '95 MIM p-bass for 1299$ (Black w/rosewood fb) . Please note that i don't have many options in my region ( I actually do but they are new guitars and expensive! )

About 400$ too expensive. MM can be bought for way cheaper, even with import and stuff. Fretless is an acquired taste, and different in terms of sound & playing than fretted.

Apart from that, MM are amazing basses, really nifty shortscales with a grown-up sound. They were marketed as fender "student" models, with not so fancy hardware (the pickup is a guitar pickup), poplar body,...

I had great fun with mine:

I own a fretted 71 musicmaster bass, and while it is fun to play, it is not a great bass. You would be much better off with the MIM Precision for $600 than a defretted Musicmaster for $1300. Look into less well known brands in your area, hopefully a Lakland Skyline bass, whose quality surpasses the MIM Fenders by a very wide margin. .

US$1299? That's very, very high for that bass (in any country), which anyway was produced as a beginner's instrument. Not a step up for you.

Recommendations are difficult because a) we don't know what you're looking for in terms of sound, type of music you play, etc. and b) we don't know what your choices are in Turkey.

You're right I'm sorry. Well i'm looking for a comfortable bass, i can find pretty much any guitar available but not vintage or used. I usually play Progressive Rock and blues. I like the sound of Rick basses but they are expensive. My price range is up to 1600 USD. I played a Warwick Corvette bass and liked the sound of it,but it was expensive also. It doesn't have to be a Fender of course but I'd prefer a fender bass. What are your opinions on the Deluxe Active j-bass? Is it Made in China? And a short-scale bass is also preferred, not a deal breaker though...

Oh, BTW i'm sorry the p-bass is 1299$ and the MM is 600$.

Hello again,
I think i found myself a good bargain. I found a mim fender deluxe jazz bass (60th anniversary edition) . I have not yet contacted the seller , but he claims he did not use it a lot and it hasnt got any wears. I will ask if all pickups,controls ecc.. Are working. He says all electronics, bridge and all are stock. I checked the serial number from the guitardaterproject and it is a valid one, made in mexico '06-'07.the price is 560 euros so about 750 euros. Btw i tested both the mm and the pbass, and they were crap, controls of the p werent working and the musicmaster was just..well...crap.
