Fender Mustang Club

I got my Mustang back out today for a jam after using my Dingwall for ages. I'd forgotten how much fun it is!
Mine is a 76 that I bought off eBay about 12 years ago. It was covered in horrible peeling black paint over the original sunburst. I stripped it back and applied a very thin few layers of rattle can nitro and added the racing stripe decal. Should have applied a few more layers of clear coat over the top, but I was aiming for a matt finish. Turns out I ended up polishing the forearm relief anyway!
It's not much of a looker, but it just sounds sooooo good!
On the string front, I also go for the medium scale D'addario nickel strings. Perfect length for the through body stringing.

This is for the Mustang PJers out there. I happen to have a .040 aluminium pickguard plate that my brother made for me using the lost wax method and my stock Mustang PJ "Mint" pickguard. That means it is perfectly formed to an original. He did this for me prior to my modifications when I was having trouble with hiss and noise when plugged into my amp.
If you are having the same kind of problems this is the item for you.
There is no cost and I will ship it as well.
It fits behind the pickguard and shields against ambient noise. There maybe some finishing filing needed.
So if you are in the need of shielding go ahead and PM me and this little beauty will be yours at no cost. Consider it a Xmas gift. I hate to see it go to waste and need the room.
All I ask is, it be done by PM so we don't take thread space. I have included a photo.

The black tapes are a Fender long-scale set I hacked to length. Totally wrong string for the job. Very clattery, clacky and low tension. I can bend notes up a whole tone anywhere on the neck with ease. Boing!

What is that sick Bronco-type bass on the right? It looks slick!
It’s a refin/build I put together- over the summer: Broncostang refin/‘build’
Since the above pic I installed a custom Nordstrand ‘51 split coil & replaced tuners with Hipshot lollipops...

Nice! I have a GruvGear Sliver (for guitar)- fits the Mustang/Bronco as well.
D'Addario have them in medium scale wich fits perfect on the mustang, short scale strings are to short and i dont like to trim long scales down
Thanks again for the advice, just got them on mustang tonight and it made a world of difference. Went with the straight shortscale since it's the pj model. Sounds punchy and thick now, has made me stop thinking about changing the Pu for the time being. 1st rehearsal with her tomorrow
Does anyone have the Vintera Mustang and the JMJ and can you notice much difference ? I can't compare them as I have neither but I am not sure which one to go for. I have returned my Vintera as it is faulty and am not sure whether to splash out a bit more cash. I know the JMJ has SD pickups and the aging look but in terms of money would you put the JMJ in a higher league.
Hey guys, I think I may finally spring for a mustang soon considering I'm in Europe for the month (gonna pop over to Thomann HQ and finally make an irl puchase 
). I'm probably gonna spring for the American Professional in surf green, considering it's only about $75 NZD more than the vintera models.
Now, I've already tried these basses and the biggest gripe I have is the strings/tension on them. I was wondering if putting a set of flats would solve either of these issues. I know a standard set of flats (.45) normally has a higher tension than rounds of the same gauge, but would a set of .45 flats even out the tension on a short-scale to make it feel a little bit better? Or is there another solution that would work better?

For my shortscales it's more a matter of string flexibility rather than tension. I find flats to be less flexible than rounds. I prefer nylon tapewounds.
Ah, I may chuck a set of flats on it then. I find the rounds that the ones I've played had were *too* bouncy. Tapes would go way off to the wrong end of the spectrum for me
I go for a more upright-ish tone for a jazz-ish group and the tapes help me with that.
Since I am feeling in the spirit heck I will throw in a Custom Pickguard Planet 3 ply pickguard, white black white, to spark interest. Remember no charge or shipping.
