As a fellow shell pink owner, I gotta say-- it paints everything in sight with a bit of extra springtime sparkle when it's out of the case. Good choice!! Here's hoping it's a winner
Brite Flats update: the initial bit of stickiness is already toning down after a few nights' play time and a rehearsal Tues. I'd forgotten to alcohol them, but might not even bother at this rate.
They sound so good with the EMG GZR kit I dropped into this puppy, I'm betting they're a good fit for the stock pickups too. We know the stock P pickup is world class, but I'm curious if the J pickup would sound beefier paired with Brite Flats than it does with the standard rounds.

I’ve owned both Fallouts and sold the Tribute. The neck of the US model alone makes it worth the price difference to me. You have to play one to decide if that’s the case for you.
I have this gorgeous Mustang...and never play it more than a couple minutes before I put it down and grab my Ibanez. I just do not like these stock pickups. they sound weak and anemic.
I have a Geezer Butler PJ set in my Ibanez Mikro, and love them. I suppose I could install them in the Mustang, but do I really want 2 bass guitars with identical pickup sets?
It seems like my cheapest option would be to try Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounds or DiMarzios. Passive options from Aguilar or Bartolini would be more $$$...

Which pickups? Is the Mustang a PJ or original type? I have the CV Squier with the smaller pups and just a little adjustment on my amp's V knob gets me enough... Also what strings are you using on the Stang? -Sometimes that makes a big difference!
It’s a PJ…not original. Currently strung with LaBella flats. I prefer flats and have chromes on the Mikro.

Yes, it might matter which Mustang model [I'm guessing PJ since the poster was considering putting the Geezer pups onto it], but I'm with you on looking into other strings than the factory ones, especially into non-roundwounds.

What about Chromes on the Mustang ?
I personally like LaBella flats, partly because of more choices of gauges in short and medium scale, but they are not the only choice.

Trying Chromes on the Mustang would definitely be cheaper than swapping out the pickups...something to consider.

I thought this might be a good place to ask this question, since you are all mustang owners!
How is the quality and reliability of the newer MIM player PJ mustangs? I thought I remember hearing issues with the pickup selector switch.
I’m tempted to get one to use as my main bass in an original hard rock type band, but obviously want something that is fairly reliable.

That's about the only problem I have had with mine. I only use the neck pup anyway, but a quality switch for $10 will solve that problem.

Performance report:
So I got 2 Mustang PJ's last week, chose "the one" returned the other. I kept the shell pink. I hated the strings and associated sounds they made with the pickups. I put Labella's on and suddenly my issues were gone. Did an intonation/set-up (no noise on this switch the other PJ did). First rehearsal with the band today was stellar. They all loved the sound and the color and my fluency with it. So, I do live on the P pickup and adjust the tone as needed, but with those strings, the J pickup sounds perfectly great too. A tremendous amount of tone can be achieved from the tone control alone. Though I live in the P world, this guitar is very good for anything a fella might wanna do on it. I've got two really great Precisions that may not see much use, which could suck, but I love this Stang alot right now.
