I do agree, at the price point of these U.S. made basses, this shouldn't happen. I'm a huge mustang fan. I've owned every version that fender has spit out over the years. I've never liked the vintage or jmj necks, just too fat for me. But dang, this neck version is to die for imo....not too fat or wide, just right. Anyway, yeah, both of mine had this hole issue, wish i had asked for some $ back, but didn't.

I raised my concerns with the vendor. I felt a bit awkward doing that and I hope they get reimbursed by Fender for the small rebate they gave me. Fender's feet need to be held to fire with QC. I plan on using that rebate to buy the Sire U model gig bag for my Mustang from that same vendor so at least I'm keeping that $$$ in house. I have the Sire V gig back for my Jazz and Precision Basses and the quality and price is excellent. I highly recommend those gig bags

I'm curious to see if they corrected it on future runs. All it would take is a slight change to the design being loaded into the CNC machine.

I'd also love to have been in the room the first time someone went to install the neck and bridge after the factory had already cut hundreds of the bodies with the holes slightly off. The panic would have been fun to watch.

Put together this parts stang today. Allparts primo body, EMG classic PJ, Gotoh bridge, Player II neck from Stratosphere. I need to get a chrome control plate but otherwise it's all done and I'm really enjoying it!

I'm having a pesky issue with my A string. I'm getting a buzz from the nut to the tuning machine AND fret buzz with an open "pluck". I had a buzz issue with one of my Jazz basses with the D string between the nut and string tree on the headstock. On that Jazz, I had it strung with La Bella LTFs when I experienced this issue. I restrung it with the DTBs and the problem was gone. I currently have my Mustang strung with https://www.sweetwater.com/store/de...s-steel-flat-wound-bass-strings-light-043-104

Has anyone else experienced this? Ideally I'd like to go with tape wounds but I know there's grounding issues with this. Is there a thicker gauge flat wound through-body string that anyone has tried and liked?

I did notice the break angle of the A string between nut and tuner was a bit flat. I've always tried to get my A string as long, with as many wraps around post as possible. This will drive the string to bottom of tuner peg giving the most angle. That string retainer you showed earlier is only for that one particular tuner type, due to way it attaches. I've actually looked for a replacement string tree that would grab the A also....

Why o why have Mustang prices been soaring. Had to resort to cheapskate(?) means and made a thestatosphere parts special for well under 700. Yeah I could've been more of a cheapskate and saved even more buying a Squier, curse my long standing stigma and all that. Built specifically for an easy gig and easy playing. Rehearsal test comences in less than 2 hours.

That long URL probably includes an evil command to display an ad. I guess that by cutting most of that off at some point one could get to the intended destination without an ad.

Since this seems to be a common thread recently, I just purchased a, basically new vintera ii competition stripe capri yellow/orange mustang 70’s bass from GC online for under $750…didn’t even look played and came with all the case candy, which had also not even been opened. However, the strings it had on were most likely d’addario nyxl rounds, which I changed out for labella mustang flats after a couple days. I also noticed a strange vibration on my E string, but couldn’t determine if it was coming from the nut, the string itself, or a loose truss rod (almost seemed internal at times). Tested out the graphite on the nut trick, as well as Big Bend’s Nut Sauce, and finally located the issue…one of the tuner stems (connected to the worm gear) was loose. Once I held it in place, the vibration ceased. This was a good excuse to change out the tuners for the set of Hipshot H10 tuners that are the exact replacement for the ones on this bass. I just ordered them, so we will see if that resolves the issue when I get them installed. Just mentioning it for anyone else who has tried all the other methods mentioned here.

I was considering changing out the pickup for a curtis novak, but actually like how it is sounding, especially running into the jad e freer capo preamp and into my benson and barefaced rig. I did however, shield the pickup and control cavities.

I haven't received them yet, so i can't say for sure, but these are the direct replacement for the stock ones, so i am guessing that the weight is probably pretty similar.

i did go with the lollipop vs. clover, but if you are looking for lighter weight tuners, hipshot does make the ultralight versions. a quick look at the hipshot website shows that there is a slight weight difference, with the ultralights being about 40g lighter each, but you might want to check to see which ones will work with your setup best. looks like there are a few different options (2 options for tuner sizes and also USA vs. import). the H10's that i bought are 85g each, while the ultralights are around 45g each.

Somebody made me an offer on some lollipop HB10s so I bit. I weighed a stock tuner and it was 88.1g (3.1 oz) The HB10 is supposedly 85g (2.9 oz) according to the dimensions diagram on their website.

An Earth-shattering 0.8 oz difference when all 4 are swapped out! I will not notice the difference other than the better looks.

Did you go with a Player II neck? I think I am basically about to assemble the same combo if so. How are you liking it?
