Fender P '62 vs '63 pickup comparison

My Ibanez SR800 needs new pickups and I've decided to go with the OG '62 or PV '63.

However, compared to a P Bass, the route of the stagger is reversed, and it's placement is more towards the neck...the lowest point (of the bottom pickup) is right in the middle.

Will the added low end of the '63 be a too much at this position?

Been thinking of using a mixed set of the Fender 62's and 63's for a double P bass, with the 62's at the bridge and the 63's at the neck. I have a set of the custom 62's in my standard P bass and love the with the TI flats

That natural P is unfairly beautiful.

I had DiMarzio Model Ps in an alder P, liked them at first but quickly got tired of them. Hence I've been avoiding the PV63s. Put the PV62s (aka Original 62) in there, completely happy. UNTIL--someone posted audio samples of PV62 vs CS62s. <sigh> Now have the CS62s in it. Like those a smidge more.

That is why I am thinking of both in a double P, best of both worlds!
worse case scenario if I do not like it I can aways rotate them. just not in love with those EMG pickups.
Has anyone used the 62/63's with an preamp, picked up an Audere 4 pot preamp to try out.

I use the PV 63 with GHS Balanced Nickels on my 2012 American Special PBass and that combination knocks it out of the park tone wise! Needless to say that bass is now my main player.

Concur. PV 63 with GHS balanced nickels is a great combination.

The use of 62's in the neck and 63's in the bridge using a Audere Audio 2 band preamp and with TI Jazz flats in my double P, WOW!!!! blew those EMG's out of the water, my sweet spot is with the balance knob just slightly turned to the bridge for the 63's only to tone down the 62's strong bottom end, I was getting into it so much that my accountant had to leave the shop due to how loud I was in the office.

I have used both the 62 Custom Shop P and the 63 Pure Vintage. I like the 63 Pure Vintage a little better because it has more low end response. The 62 CS is great if you want clean articulate tone but to me the 63 PV is a little more to my liking. When I sold that P bass I removed the 63PV and put the original stock pickup back in. I have both boxed up and stored in event I want to put them in another P at some point.
