I just recently scored a 2005 2006 mim p bass, just wanting to know the specs on it,wood type, electronics,finish type,its black with tort guard, was that factory or did the guard get changed out,its rosewood fret board also...any info would be appreciated...:)

Probably switched out, even if original... but just a few ones are, due to the high price of original spare parts

I agree with alder body, maple neck (usually with skunk stripe) and stock MIM splitcoil.

If it's from said period, check if there's a Fender "60th anniversary" badge behind the headstock

.. it may help to put up pictures seeing as it has already been modded, there is no way for us knowing what else has been done to it ... yes, body should be alder, if it indeed is the stock body for that neck ...finish should be poly, pots if stock 250k, cap .05 ... stock pickguard would have been white/black/white

.. we can give you specs/list of every component on the bass when it was stock, but when things start getting modded, it is a whole different story without pics/details

Black body was original to that neck, bass was made in Jan of '06 .. pickguard looks like a print type similar to what is used on Squier Standard P Spec (Antique Burst) ... nut was probably replaced ... the knobs appear to be 'domed' rather than the flat tops that would have came on this originally (may just be illusion from the camera shot?) ... Enjoy!!

Agreed:
pickguard and pots appear to come from the same Squier Std "backup brother", minor change considerin' how rough stock parchment pickguard and flat knobs usually look

Other than that, Duncan Quarter Pound, nut and strings all give a pleasant sense of care for the instrument

it did have flat top knobs but they didnt match so I put the push on domes that came off a VM Squier jazz bass and I also put the Chromes on as soon as I got it couldnt do the round wounds...well I got the answers I wanted to hear Thank you so much for your expertise and knowledge..I really am enjoying this bass...:)

Push on knobs work on it? Reason why I'm asking is because I also have a MIM P-bass I traded for recently- also has the Seymour Duncan pickups and Badass II bridge. It too has "mismatched" knobs, one flat top, the other more dome like - both are set screw. I bought knobs for it on Ebay (set screws),but the hole was too small even though it was for the "standard US" solid post pots.

... that may not be a good sign .. IF you are pushing those Squier knobs onto SPLINED/SPLIT shafts, these are not stock pots for a MIM Standard ... if you are pushing them onto solid shafts (?), then you may be ok ... the pots that are usually used on the Squiers that take the 'press on' knobs may even be 500k, as well as being smaller in size than the stock 250k MIM Standard pots ... might want to pull the pickguard and take a look IF you have splined/split shafts ;)

I think that's a Squier Classic Vibe P-bass pickguard. The knobs would be off a Squier Affinity, or aftermarket.

Either way, the bass looks good. :)
