Fender P or J bass next (Lefty)

I currently have an LTD 5 string pj bass. It’s served me well, but gigging with it is a pain due to how heavy it is. I mostly play metal and use darkglass preamp b7k and hyperluminal compressor to get most of my tones. I thought I’d get a new bass because I’ve joined a brutal death metal / mathcore band. I’ve always wanted a fender p or j bass but I just can’t decide which to save up for. I love the p bass low and punchy tones and its simplicity but I’m also obsessed with the J bass mid range growl and snappy-ness. My Ltd has emg pickups and it’s a pj so the p really doesn’t sound like a fender p and neither does the j. What do I do?? Thanks bass nerds

My favorite bands that use j basses

Hi from one lefty to another.
As P and J basses are not just different in sound, but also different neck and body shapes, you might find that one is more comfortable and enjoyable for you to play. So, try and have a go with both any way you can, even if you have to try some righty models in a store.

Also, if you like your LTD apart from its weight, there are simple things you can do to make it more comfortable e.g. get Hipshot ultralight or Gotoh GB350 tuners (as long as the holes in the headstock are the same size) and an Ernie Ball Cloud Comfort wide strap.
You could also replace the P pickup in it for something with more of a Fender P sound.
