I know when I say this I might seem like the antichrist to many of you, but I have never liked the Fender P style bass. Ive been borrowing one from a friend for a few years, and it has no qualities that make me say "Wow, this bass rocks." It sounds kinda wimpy to me. Maybe i just have never heard a great one. What about these types of basses do all of you like so much?

Try using it with your band, heavy flatwound strings are a good option.
Like some amps... it won't shine that much used as a solo instrument.
Maybe is just not for you, there's nothing wrong in that.

I just think mine kicks A**... most usually agree when it's heard live. And this is through a 112 cabinet
I never had much love for a P until I got one. It may not be elegant, but it sure is simple. A P with a set of flats has both horsepower and traction! I think I'm leaving the Ric at home again this weekend and gigging the P. I really really dig it.
