Fender PB-62 Precision Bass MIJ greenish/grey tint

Hello fellow slappers!

New here, so I hope this lands in the correct forum.

I have a Fender PB-62 Precision bass MIJ 1989-1990. It's a fantastic bass in every way. In some lighting the black finish appears to be of a slight greenish and/or gray tint.
Is this common for MIJ basses from this era? Why is it so? It looks solid black most of the time except in direct sunlight or other bright lighting.

Thanks!

Yeah, don't really hate it. Just curious if it's a common thing or if it's just luck/bad luck. 🤷‍♂️
Time to put on my artist's hat again… 👨‍🎨

There are very few actual black tones in paints, pigments, plastics, dyes, etc. The vast majority of "black" colors are actually another color that's so intense, it appears to be black. Blues, greens and purples are the most commonly used colors to simulate black tones.

True black paints, such as Musou Black, eat up so much light (99.4%!! 😲) that the features and details practically disappear. (…along with your money, 'cuz they're hella expensive!)
