Fender pickguard assembly affect tone?

Looked for a bit and couldn't find any thing related.

I'm wondering if having the pups directly mounted to the body versus mounted to a pick guard would in any way affect the pups sound?

So let the science mumbo jumbo begin....

it shouldn't, even if the whole tone would thing is true... the pickups to look at the wood for voicing, it would be the wood making the strings vibrate differently. so ya pickups mounted to a pickgaurd should be fine.

I would say no unless they were microphonic.

I would say yes if you spend waaaayyyyy too much time on internet forums, and are convinced that there's something wrong with everything.
