Hey all, I posted this in the "Hardware, Setup, & Repair" forum but didn't get a whole lot of responses so I'll try here...

I'm looking to assemble a fairly simple bass with parts from thestratosphere on the Bay but just had three questions before I do so:

1) Will there be any issues fitting a 2013 AmStd P neck into a 2013 AmStd J body's neck pocket? If there will be issues, what are they and what will potential remedies be?

2) Are the neckplate screws hand-tightened or is there a torque value (inch-ounces or inch-pounds) I'm aiming for?

3) Will the truss rod need adjusting after I attach the neck or is this a case-by-case thing?

Thanks for your help! This will be my first assembly after 14 years of playing. :D

1)should fit they all interchange
2)just tighten them by hand
3) they all need a tweek when setting up its no big deal just bow it or unbow it whatever it needs after the necks on when you are looking down the neck.

you might run into a case where it could need a neck shim.....but probably not because they are both fender.
I personally wouldnt spend all that money on a Fender neck. I would get a better one from USCG or warmoth.
and why buy from stratosphere when you can get them for the same price right from Fender now with warranty!

I got a replacement neck under warranty from Fender and they sent me one in a box like they are selling now...and it was so perfect I was impressed!

Wow! Thanks for the info. Did you order the replacement neck from Fender.com, GC, or else where?

I thought about just buying a AmStd Jazz and selling the neck on electronic Bay once I swap it for a P... That way I'll get the case, too.

That probably the best way to do it....or buy used in the classifieds here and sell the neck and get the neck you want.

You can buy them direct from Fender.com now they started offering them a couple months ago becuase warmoth and the others sell so many necks! I think warmoth makes a better neck and its cheaper and you can get cool stuff like birdseye maple or all rosewood! heres a link to their p bass necks....you can have them build you one too! you will be addicted now that you see this!

theres 10xs more jazz bass necks and 100xs more guitar stuff on here

oh and go for slim taper if you like the feel of the modern necks....the old 70s necks are standard taper and feel like baseball bats....if you ever get anything from here...I have 2 necks from here and love them one bubinga on bubinga and one ebony on rosewood.
