I already have a number, but here is a little bass porn that Fedex delivered to me just this morning (Please excuse the 1965 entry). Lake... Placid... Blue!!! She sounds divine 
I don't won't to make you feel old, but you share the same birth year as my father.
I don't feel old as my father is 90. Some day if we are both lucky, we will both be as old as him. 
EDIT: If you think of the age of the earth, 49 years is a flash in the pan. Also the older you get, the shorter life seems.

When I talk to my dad, he always wishes he was born in 55 instead of 65. His 'old' tastes in music as a kid are responsible for me being obsessed with 50's and 60's blues and rock.
There were lots of good things about being a teen in the 50s and sixties, but there was the war, you know. Some things just seem better when seen in the rear view mirror.
There have been many wars during my lifetime. I can't remember a time when the US was not at war or in some military "operation".

What impacted people so much during the late 50's early 60's with Vietnam, was that people had the carnage brought into their living rooms every evening for the first time ever. People began to see what real war was about.

And people were drafted into the military to serve, whether they agreed with the war or not. Today, kids can make the choice for themselves. That is a huge difference.

Was that thing ever played?
It belonged to the original owner (until I came along), and was gently played and well cared for. There are a few small nicks and scrapes when you get up real close, but most of the visible imperfections are simply age related. These gems don't come along every day, but they are still out there. I used to be into vintage cars and we called the equivalent to this a 'barn find'
I have a question regarding early CBS production and thought some of my pre-CBS friends might know the answer. While lurking and drooling in the classifieds for years, I have seen many fender J and P basses dated 1965 and 1966, and then 1969 and on. But the years 1967 and 1968 are noticibly absent. Does anyone know why? Did CBS perhaps overbuild during their first couple of years and then cut back production in order to sell off old inventory? Just wondering

Yes I think that's why Ron.. '66 was such a large production year, they didn't make very many in '67, but mid way thru '68 they made some big changes - poly replaced nitro, "elephant ear" tuners came out and started replacing the lollipops (and completely replaced the reverse Kluson tuners), and they got new "TV" headstock decals. So production started to pick up again in '68 and was in full swing again by '69.
