Fender Precision 2006 60th Anniversary - Do you have one? Your experience?

A local music store has a couple of these (still in box). I've also found a few on the web.

I currently have two Squier VM basses, a Jazz and Telebass. I'd like to add a traditional P bass to the family and would prefer a Fender versus Squier (though I like my Squiers).

Given I'm more of a hobbyist, what are your thoughts on this bass to add to the family?

If you have one (or have played one), what are your perceptions about this bass?

Any comments, thoughts, experiences, etc. will be appreciated!

I think the split coil would be a sound addition to your growing bass family...weren't these 60th anniversary models blizzard silver or somesuch???...I thought they looked nice and believe they were similar to any other bass (with the switch they removed in 2008) of that time period...made in USA too, right???
This'll get you to the top anyway...

Thanks for the reply. Blizzard pearl is the color. MIM though. There are two MIA 60th anniversary versions....Standard and HWY1....more $$$$ (when you can find one).

However the split pickup is listed as American Standard versus Standard (MIM).

I'm assuming you're talking about the MIA 60th Anniversary bass, right? I don't have one of those. I do have an '06 Highway One P-Bass with the 60th Anniversary medallion on the back of the headstock. I've been very pleased with it, especially since I got a very good deal on it.

The MIA 60th Anniversary model, is the same as any other MIA P made that year, only it has the little banner w/ the diamond on the headstock, and has the 62RI p/u, and made in limited numbers. All the MIA 60th anny's were sunburst. The MIM version was Blizzard Pearl.

I'm assuming your talking about one of those, like pictured above, and not just a garden variety P built in 2006, with the sticker on the back of the headstock.

Honestly, I've seen these sittin in stores unsold, with an inflated price tag on them.

If you're a collector, yeah, it might be worth a couple of extra bucks someday, although the other Fender Special Anniversary models don't historicly grab much of a premium if any.

If you want a player, I'd be looking at the new American Standard Precisions unless you can get some real agressive (sub $800) priciing on what is essentialy a left over, discontinued model. (required IMO)

I forgot to add that it comes in a special silver hard case with a custom marked interior (that is so nice you won't want to use it or get it marked).

I had a look at a normal USA 3 tone sunburst P in Boston last week and there was no difference except the 60th trimmings.

I use my P60 regularly at ggs and it's a great bass.
If I was looking again, I'd probably go for a USA Standard P too.

I can get (and am looking at) a MIM 60th anniversary in blizzard pearl for about 450 USD.

I agree with you observation....if I was spending $800.00 (or more) on a new bass I would be getting a new MIA P bass. They look great....just more than what I need.

Thanks for the response.

O.K. now that I know which one we're talking about.

The MIM 60th in very nice and has the American Series p/u upgrade. Nice bass all around, and the ones I've played have all been nice. I don't know if the MIM's will ever have any kind of collector value (probably not) but it is a decent bass. $450 seems a little steep for a bass that is "left over stock" though (required IMO) Remember it is two years old , even if it's never been sold. I dont' think you should be paying full street price for a two year old bass. (again required IMO)
