Fender Precision - around $2k bugbet, CS Used or Vintage 70-80?

Hello guys! First time to be here.

I need some opinions for looking a fender precision, the budget is around US$2000-2600. I'm personally a guitarist, just look for a decent and sounds good bass for recording. I took a look and did a lot of searches over the net, found the price of a 70-80s precision is around 2k, however it's said that the fender in this era sucks. so, do you guys suggest to get a used Custom shop instead?
I'm currently on a target which is all black with rosewood fingerboard, year of 1980. 9.3lbs. good condition. is it worth $2k?:hyper:

No, the vintage you're looking at should only cost you $1500. Unless the condition is nearly new or there is something else special about it, mid 70s to early 80s should cost you about half of what your budget is.

making one myself is also a good choice in the price, however it will take more times to build and experience on it. I've never tried it and I need the bass as soon as possible for some tracks.

For that amount you could have someone make one for you and get exactly what you want. There are a lot of good builders around like Nash or Bluesman. I personally like Ben Lindsey. He can do killer looking, sounding and playing reproductions of the old Fenders, as well as anything else you want. You can look him up on TB and you'll find nothing but good comments about his work and customer service.

The only downside to making one is, if you choose to sell it down the road it won't be worth what you have in to it. Spend $1500 bucks on a 70s P today and it will (hopefully) be worth at least that a few years from now. Of course, 5 years ago it would have been hard to predict the impending drop in "vintage" values to come, so you never really know for sure.

A bass of that vintage should cost you $1,500 TOPS. $2k for a 1980 Pbass?? That is way more than top dollar.

Nice '79 Precision - sold for $1,200 shipped.

Decent orginal '78 Precision - sold for $1,212 shipped



The list goes on and on. Personally, a recent, used Custom Shop Pbass will be much nicer than any late-70's/early-80's Precision you'll find. But $2k will buy you a nice used boutique Precision, too.
