Fender Precision Dating Help

Hello wise Fender folk. Couldn’t walk away from this one today……sounds like it could be mid-late 70’s or early 80’s……Finding conflicting info online so hoping someone here will share their knowledge…….its obviously been through some battles, but I think it’s dreamy and the neck is straight. Any insight as to the age of this beast?

S7 + 5 digits
1977 - 1978

Yes, 77-78.

The year can be narrowed down using the codes stamped on the pots, provided they’re original.

Argh! I saw that on google but my brain separated the 7. So I was looking at S + 6 digits…. Thanks! I’ll pull it back apart tonight and see what the pots tell me.

Pots read: 1377625 so I understand that to be 1976 pots. I am not seeing any numbers on the pickups…..

Any one know if the pickups in the 76 are more like the 77s or the 75s ?

Don’t be shy, just ask that P out. The worse that can happen is you get denied, but that allows you to look at other prospective dates. Don’t waste any time on a bass that doesn’t want you, there are too many kind, decent basses out there just waiting for the right individual. The only way to know if you are that individual is to ask them out and show them who you are. Life is too short to date iffy basses.
