Fender Prices - Going Back Down

So I was in my local music store chatting with the owner about the Fender price hike, and he claims to have been told by his Fender contact that the price hike will be reversed in the near future, due to the fact that Fender has suffered a massive sales drop since the hike.

Not sure if this will pan out. Fingers crossed...

If this is so, then I hate to say it but I called it months ago. If they suffered too much of a sales drop, they'd be sorry and have to back off. Problem now is that it's going to take more than just a drop in price to get the customers back (a few are gone forever, buying from competitors). A sale on some models would be a step in the right direction, along with the across-the-board price reduction. There's enough profit built in to their line to allow this. At least we'll be relieved of seeing those ebay ads where three and four year old models are compared pricewise with today's. Too bad there isn't truth in advertising there, "Buy my used Geddy Lee for $150 more than I paid for it".

I'm not saying that it was Fender's brightest moment, but it is usually what happens when the economy fails. The price goes up. Companies start selling less, but still need to pay their employees. That extra money that they would have made otherwise in a normal economy has to come from somewhere. In Fender's case (and many other cases, has anyone else noticed the rising prices of groceries?) they decided to raise the price. In this case however, a bass is not a necessity (no matter how much you might argue that a Fender bass is so much better than xyz bass) and I think this is what has brought up all this anger and debate. It's not something we need, it's just something we want. As we all know, want usually pulls stronger than need (which is why I am pretty sure that not many people are complaining about the price of food).

...That being said, I too hope the prices go down. I'd like to have a fretless P Bass one of these days. ;)

wow, some possibly good news. ( won't get my hopes up )

i can't imagine fender's moved much inventory since late february,
and if they actually do go through with a price reduction, they'll
have managed to piss off an entirely new group of folks—those who
pony'd up the extra 30%.

now, fender, how about coming back to reality and selling those
road worns for around $750?

( and, giving us a RW fiesta red P w/rosewood )

Stop tempting a poor man! :p

I just had a sneaky:ninja:looksee at your profile.

Poor? :D :p

That's some awesome gear you have there.
Such an awesome collection wouldn't be complete without the best fretless bass Fender makes. (Or perhaps best bass overall by Fender)

I just changed some things on my TF last night.
SD Basslines SBP-3 Quarterpounders to replace the stock split-coil.
And I ditched the J pickup and the switchblade.
Now I am waiting for new brighter strings... well I have to order them. D'Addorio Prosteels or DR HiBeams.

Someone is selling a fretless Tony Franklin in the classifieds.

I'd jump on it if it wouldn't cost me over 600$ to ship it to Europe.
normal price is somewhere beetween 100 and 200 dollars. And you always could ask seller to send two separate packs. One with a neck, other with a body. In that way you don't have to pay customs(or pay minimum as you get spare parts, not whole instrument)

Thanks for the tip.

On my hand, I honestly don't want to go through all that to get that bass.

But I hope the seller here finds a buyer (in conus).

I don't see why everyone complains. Ten years ago an MIA Fender was $850 or so and they've been that price for ages, and even adjusting for inflation, the hike isn't too bad. Its just that they jumped it 30% at once which makes it seem huge.

And to the guy complaining about the roadworns, have you actually played one? They're the top of the line MIM basses and they give MIAs a good run for the money, and can surpass them. I love my 08 Pbass that I have now, and I was screwing around with a RW 50s P and it was just as good as my American Standard.

Also the price of wood has gone up a lot or so I've been hearing.
