Fender Rascal Bass

I believe the price is what it is because it is the only one and may likely not be duplicated. This is going to be a rare piece going forward even if they decide to do a production run. Sure a Sadowsky Metro is 1/4 the cost, but there are plenty of those to be had with no shortage in sight.

Fender Rascal Bass OCT MBJS, 4 string e bass, Masterbuilt by Jason Smith, alder body, 62 Jaguar style maple thomann neck (Quadersawn), rosewood frettboard (round laminated), 52er Style "U" neck shape, 9,5" radius, 4,13cm nut width, 21 medium jumbo frets, white dot inlays, 1ply white moto 62 Jazzmaster Style pickguard, nickel hardware, 3x handwound Lipstick SLS pickups, colour: Ocean Turquoise satin NOS thomann finish. incl. black tolex case

I'll bite, what exactly is a thomann neck and a thomann NOS finish supposed to be?

€7,999 :hiding:

Ah ok.
Another $300 bass for which they obviously made a mistake with the price tag.
I'm sure they'll spot the mistake soon and correct it.

No doubt there is someone out there who will gladly pay the price for that guitar and think they stole it. More power to them.

For the rest of us non-billionaires, $10K-ish for a bass can't be easily justified.

That said, if I were in the market for a bass at that price level, it certainly wouldn't be a Fender. I'd be looking at Alembic and a few other builders that offer the utmost level of artful craftsmanship. Which is way beyond anything that will ever roll out of the Fender Custom Shop.

Not knocking the FCS, they make fine "Fender" instruments. But that's where it ends. At some point you stop paying for great materials and workmanship, and begin to pay for marketing hype. This Thomann Fender looks like a perfect example of the latter.

Concur:
I paid far less than half that for my Alleva, and my Nord; both of which were about as "craftsman" as you can get in terms of made by more or less one guy.

whatevz.
you like it, you got the coin, rock it.

Divide the price by 10 and it'd still be too expensive. Pretty cool design though. Not interesting enough to dump my Danelectro 6 string tic tac bass though. For that scratch I'd probably be looking at a custom Wal (or 2!) or a decent carved upright.
