Fender road worn or Highway one jazz

I have played both. I like the RW, and now own one.

Without going into great detail, my vote definately goes to the Road Worn.

HW1 has a badbass bridge, made in USA and, as mine is proof, will become authentically "road worn" within 1 year if regularly played thanks to the sweet nitro finish on them. They're great basses and very very solid and dependable, plus like I said, you'll make it real; playing wear and not fake playing wear

Theres more to the RW bass than just the wear. The neck is easily one of the most comfortable I've held. It just has great feel. The smaller frets make the contact on the fretboard feel and sound warmer. The pickups are fantastic, not what I would consider "hot" but they aren't mousey either.

Overall, a fantastic bass. I own one, and it gets my vote.

I originally went into the store with the intention of getting a HW1 but after having the chance to test them side by side the road worn was by far the better in all aspects. I've gigged with the RW for almost a year now and still can't wipe the smile off my face. Either way, both basses are great and you can't go wrong IMO. Both have Nitro finishes, sound great and will nail any gig you throw at them.

HW 1....well built....good value for money and you take less of a hit than the roadworn should you ever decide to resell it.

There are some differences HWY1, flatter neck, taller wider frets, Graphite rods,
Bridge, tuners, Grease bucket tone(added cap). Build materials, pickups, and finishes are the same. I do own 4 Jazz basses but the RW and the HWY1 really did nothing for me. Just me though.

The extra $$$ of the Road Worn offers only highly diminished returns on the quality in my opinion. I'd get a Highway One and break it in.

Perhaps the one and only think I agree makes the Road Worn better are the frets.

I've never seen the point in the Road Worn guitars, if you want a guitar that looks years old & like someone's thrown it down a flight of stairs every day, buy a guitar & do that

I've a "08" Fender American Standard Jazz 4 string with a great neck, it's great sounding, mint..........................
I've got it for sale locally...
When it sells, it'll be replaced by a Road Worn Jazz!

I went with the HWY 1 myself. However, I'd love to own a Road Worn as well. The HWY1 saved me some coin that I in turn used for a new pre, pups, and pick guard. I think I got a more personal and versitile instrument in the end. Just my .02

I've played a bunch of Highway One models over the years, and they're great. I'm also not into the "relic" thing at all. But I recently played a Road Worn Jazz, and thought it was fantastic, probably better than most Highway One models. It was light, with excellent feel and great tone. Between the two, I'd still probably hunt down a good Highway One, but I definitely understand going for a Road Worn. (For my latest J, however, I ordered a G&L JB.)
