Only if your "actual point" is regarding aesthetics alone. But if we are going solely on tone and playability, the Road Worn Jazz kicks ass over the HW1.

...Very similar to my experience. I had a '68 Jazz years ago--sold many moons ago. I had a very nice early 2001 '60s Classic Jazz. It was better than my '68. I liked it a little better than my friend's very nice first run HWY-1, though that was a very nice Jazz, too.

In the course of 2009, I played nearly a dozen Road Worn basses, comparing them to each other, and two '60s Classics. There is a thread about part of that here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?p=7245513&highlight=#post7245513

In 2010, I finally got a used late 2008 Fiesta Red Road Worn Jazz ($675 on ebay). I love it, and one of my bass teachers, Yuka Tadano, who is a bona fide upright and electric Jazz star also loved it when she tried it out.

As Ed Friedland noted in his Bass Whisperer review cited above, the Alder and Maple they are using for these humble MIM nitro finished period correct Jazzes and P-basses is top quality. IMHO, it is a bit better than the classic series--and I loved my '60s classic--which had a flamed Maple neck, but some obvious small knots in the body Alder. Sounded good, even after the mods, but the RW is the champ for me. Now I want a P-bass, too, and I already have 3 older P-basses. Heavens!

Most humble apologies, sarcasm can often be hard to detect in the written format. I actually had read your prior comments, it's just that with so many posts it's hard to keep track of who said what sometimes. All the best to you and your beautiful bass sir ;-)

Theres more to the RW bass than just the wear. The neck is easily one of the most comfortable I've held. It just has great feel. The smaller frets make the contact on the fretboard feel and sound warmer. The pickups are fantastic, not what I would consider "hot" but they aren't mousey either.

Overall, a fantastic bass. I own one, and it gets my vote.

I agree played the rw nice bass, great sound and lack of badass gets my vote fitted one to my am std for about an hour, was a try before buy and did'nt buy. J bass is like it is for a reason why people want to change the sound with pups and bridges is madness just get a copy and mod the hell out of that

That was the first thing I did when I bought my old MIM 60s Jazz (which the PO had modded with a BAII). Got $60 for it on eBay, then bought a vintage style with the threaded saddles.
