Fender Roadworn Questions/Discussion Thread

"I decided to rip the Hipshot Ultralites off my parts Jazz and install them on my Road Worn P since it was the only bass I wanted to gig with and the neck heaviness was beginning to grate on me."

I noticed at practice my 8.3 lb. RWP began to wear on me after an hour or so (I know, take a break, but we get into it, and practice time is hard to come by). Anyhow, I couldn't figure it out because the bass is so light, so maybe a slightly neckheavy bass can be irritating even on a light bass? I use ComfortStraps. I may have to look into Gotoh Res-O-Lites, and end up with a sub-8 lb bass in the bargain.

Hello mates. My RW PB is wonderfully light, about 8 lbs., plays great, and IS great. It was hand picked by a friend who owns a few 50,s Fender basses. But I have just been having so much fun with an Elrick ( light and small neck) and a 62 P body I rebuilt w/ a Jazz neck and a bunch of hotrodded bits I dont play the RW much. I am liking Jazz necks in my old age.

If anyone has a RW Jazz and wants to trade straight accross somewhere here in the
N.W. I would like to hear from you!

8 is a lightweight Jazz to me for sure. Mine weighed close to 10. That's why i had to sell it. Loved it otherwise, though.

My RW Jazz feels pretty light. At least compared with my Roscoe Beck 5 string.

I would definitely like to see the choices for the RW basses expanded. A RW 60's P-Bass (in black, tort guard, rosewood board) would be awesome. And some colors other than the 'burst & Fiesta Red would be cool, too.

Absolutely - think about it, you wind up holding the neck up with your fretting hand, instead of it sitting naturally.

Went tort on my 50's RW. I like.

I did a PJ mod to mine recently. Next thing I'm going to do is hunt down a RW jazz neck and give that a try. I love the sound and the feel of the RWP but there's no denying the jazz neck is so much easier to play. Well for me anyway. Oh, and havn't got the stacked pot's knobs yet. I'd leave it because it almost goes with the RW vibe but it's so hard to turn the shafts without the knobs. As it is I'll have to figure out how to relic the knobs when I get em.

I can't even begin to say how much I love my road worn J..

I bought mine with the idea of jaco-izing it. So I had a local shop de-fret and epoxy the board.

The result is nothing short of killer... i can't believe the tone I get from it, really road worn's are amazing to my ears. I figure the price of the bass + pro epoxy job was about $1,400 total, and I ended up with a bass I will be using forever... it just blows me away.

The tinkering continues. I dropped a 70's DiMarzio Model P in my RW Precision:

Stock pickup was excellent, but the DiMarzio brings a bit more fullness to the table. Pick attack is more defined too - think Mike Dirnt's early Green Day tone. And that's with old LaBellas on it!

Was there ever an answer to this?? I was sooo disappointed, i removed my pickguard, and their is a CNC alignment hole :(

Hi all,
Has anyone had any issues with the jazz necks?
I got one last weekend that had been hanging on the wall of a local music shop for a few years now and I figure it was the neck that kept it there. It had a rise toward the body so they had their tech set it up. It was better but had a buzz around the 8th fret and the bridge was adjusted quite high. They made me an offer I could not refuse and have it for a week to check out. I have it set up pretty well but the bridge is maxed out with moderatly low action.
I really want to get this sorted out as it is a great feeling jazz bass. I cant find anyone that had any problems so just a shout out.
