I have been using DR Fat Beams on my passive Jazz bass for the past few years and I love how they sound, feel and they last for a long time.
I bought a wonderful Roscoe Beck V signature bass yesterday and it came with a fresh set of DR Pure Blues installed.
I have to say I am underwhelmed with the sound of the Roscoe Beck, but based on my experience, I attribute it to the Pure Blues strings - the sound is very warm - full lows, muddy mids and surprisingly, a lot of high end zing which is mainly audible through the headphones. The B string sounds muddy and undefined - an extension of muddy mids definitely affects that string.
I wouldn't describe Pure Blues strings as bad. I can see why someone would love them, but they definitely don't work for me.
Has anyone tried their Roscoe Beck with DR Fat Beams? It's an expensive gamble for me at the moment as I just practically cleared my wallet buying the bass.
I feel they would work nicely on this bass, but I'd like to hear from you too
